YouTube Advertising TrueView Ads

As the most common form of YouTube advertising across the market, TrueView ads provide viewers with the most control over advertisement. These ads can be in a form of display video ads on static display ads. Viewers can choose if they want to watch the advertisement (otherwise they can skip after 5 seconds) and advertisers only pay for TrueView ads when users watch at least 30 seconds or interact with the video in some way.  The minimum time required for such YouTube advertising ranges from 15 seconds to 6 minutes.

This method works by playing before a viewer chosen video and users do have the options to skip the ads with a companion banner ad that is displayed on the right side above suggested video list.

TrueView discovery ads

Discovery ads appear within YouTube advertising search results on the right-hand side of suggested video list which consist of an image thumbnail and 3 engaging sentences. This style of advertisement can come in form of video or static image and is more cost-efficient for business who have a lower budget. These ads appear based on target segmentation e.g., User looking or searching for an advertising company would start receiving static image ads on YouTube based on the user list or categories they are being categorized under. These styles of ads do come with a restricted image dimensions that have to be followed:

  • 91:1 – min 600×314, recommended 1200×628, max 5MB.
  • 1:1 – min 300×300, recommended 1200×1200, max 5MB.
  • 4:5 – min 480×600, recommended 960×1200 (Does not appear on YouTube)

Creating YouTube Advertising Ads

YouTube provides various guidelines for ad creation but for some marketers who are looking to create static YouTube Advertising ads, Google ad does have an option in creating these ads.
